///SHIPWRECKED///
SHIPWRECK is a multimedia exhibition surrounding the idea of shipwrecks both literally and metaphorically, which opened December 2016 at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma Washington. Over the run of the exhibition into the spring of 2017, additional work was added to the show.

A ship divided does not float. This is very much a reaction to the 2016 election cycle.

MARITIME FLAGS 253, 63” tall flags made of fabric on plywood, 2016
With the mission of the Foss Waterway Seaport being all things maritime and working waterfront, I coupled that emphasis with the local pride of Tacoma which you can see on signs, stickers, clothing and more represented by the numbers and area code 253. Both the colors and design accurately reflect the reading of 253. I chose paisley patterns as the bent cedar, a shape repeated in the pattern, representing resistance.
S.O.S. 48x18x12”, concrete and steel, 2016
Based on the SHIPWRECKED theme and the pre and post election of 2016, this piece S.O.S. represents the feeling of helplessness and despair of those results in the moment. A new feeling has replaced that sentiment, that being of fierce resistance, rage, and action.
